I retired from the fire service after 32 years and am alone now. I retired as an Assistance Chief and have gone to college and have taken classes for 32 years. I haven't traveled the world but use;d to have a 5th wheel trailer and have traveled the west coast. I have never been out of the USA, except to Mexico (still can't talk the language). So if your looking for some tales of my adventures out of this country - sorry I don't have any, some day I would still like to do it.
I love the outdoors, hiking, golf, hicking, gardening ,cooking. I have always been very active in sports but mother nature has caught up to me and seems to tell me "my friend your not that compeitve young man you use to be", but at times I'm just not smart enough on knowing when that times is.

As a highly respected and recognized cancer biology research scientist, I spent my career studying the molecular basis of human DNA repair at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. This is a field I helped establish by isolating mutant cell lines and cloning human DNA repair genes. I have now finished working on manuscripts and am essentially retired, with plenty of time to devote to a new relationship and other pursuits. I have been invited to speak at a meeting in Japan in 2013.
I stay very busy at home being environmentally active through e-mail, stroking my cat, editing my bird images, taking care of my large yard, a mini orchard, vineyard, "redwood forest", and rose garden. I get satisfaction from watching plants grow, for example admiring the size of the redwood trees I planted along with everything else you see in the back-yard photos. I exercise most days by riding my bike into the hills for an hour or more at a fast pace.
During the last three years I have traveled frequently to Central and South America for bird photography. I am also doing birding trips in the U.S., which gives me a focus for finding contentment in the natural world. The analytical part of my mind seeks to understand relationships and connections (not just people) while my aesthetic side creates and uncovers the beauty that surrounds us--- but is often missed. My deep appreciation of nature’s biodiversity has compelled me to support numerous environmental organizations.
Bird photography with a super-telephoto Canon lens gives me the means of capturing some of the awesome elegance of these ethereal creatures. At home I can be content listening to classical music and become more familiar with the pieces. I read a lot--- from science to politics, have a pretty simple lifestyle, and strive to further simplify it. I have not set any distance limitation on meeting an extraordinary lady with whom I can bond in a relationship based on shared values and romantic physical attraction.
My hope is to meet a lady who finds solace in the natural world as much as I do, and cares about protecting what is left of it: A woman who enjoys traveling broadly to experience more of nature’s riches and other cultures; an outdoor person who also enjoys quiet relaxation, stimulating conversation, perhaps with a glass of wine and music in the background; someone who shares many of my political views and helps work toward a more just, sustainable world; a woman who has had clearly defined values and goals in life, with whom I can develop a lasting, loving relationship based on mutual respect.
