Well, this is definitely a personal response -- I'm sure my ideals are different from many other guys.
So, here goes --
(1) My ideal girlfriend is someone I enjoy being with. That's how it starts out -- two friends spending time with one another.
You don't really think about romance, or have expectations. You spend time with her, and, as time goes by, you realize - "Hey, I like doing things with her. I wonder if this is going to be permanent?!"
At that point, the weightier issues come to play:
(2) Does she view life as I do? Does she believe the Creator is her best friend, and is she accountable to the Creator in the things she does in secret.
(3) What are her goals in life? Does she want to help others? Is she compassionate and kind?
(4) The emotional things which are dear to me. Like music. Does she enjoy bands which have deep, thoughtful lyrics, like Pink Floyd or U2? Or Switchfoot.
(5) Hobbies. I like to hike and drive long distances, just to gaze at the wilderness and timberline. Does she share those passions? Agreed -- we're not going to be compatible in all things -- thus, can we allow one another space, as we do the things we enjoy doing by ourselves.
(6) Communication -- can we express ourselves. Are we understanding one another.
(7) Physical attraction -- you notice I mentioned this last. There's no question that it played a factor in getting us together -- not sex, but there has to be some attraction. A bit of chemistry.
If we marry, we will remain faithful to each other, and our intimacy and the "little" things, such as hugging, or snuggling, will go a long way in keeping us satisfied. If we're going to be married for life, the pleasurable aspect of our intimate lives will take a life of its own, and there's lots of time to learn and explore one another's passions.
(8) Having children. And how we will bring them into the world, and guide them through life. We may have our differences, and struggles, as well. But our commitment to seeing our children grow into maturity will never cease.
(9) Finances. It's something you never think about when you date, but it can be the dividing line when you're married. Especially in these financially challenging times. Does she stick to a budget? Does she buy what she can't afford?
Does she believe in savings? Does she give to charity? Does she believe that money is a gift from Above, and whatever we have is loaned to us, to help us, and to help others -- not to consume us, or make us slaves of the system.
(10) This last part is a bit tricky to explain, because it's complex. On one hand, I want a woman who will support my dreams, and help me to see my weaknesses -- to overcome them, and stay on the path created for me.
On the other hand, I want to help her realize her own dreams, to cover her blind spots, and overcome her own personal struggles, to stay on the path created for her.

I'm am quite fit trail running, biking the island of Hawaii, backpacking through India, etc. (I once ran a marathon on a whim, signing up the day prior. Oh, and it was straight up a mtn. climbing 6000ft.) I really don't define myself through my athleticism, but I am very active.
Reading should be something that you enjoy. If the last book you read was in college, please move on.
Friends have told me that I tend to talk less but say more.
If you are into clubbing, buying a beemer, bling, or can't make a statement without using "like," please move on, we aren't for each other. If you expect me to put the moves on you the first time we meet, prolley aint gonna happen. I am patient.

I come from a very rural/humble background in PA. I have been successful through my hard work and willpower. I'm not really looking for a trust fund child that has been handed everything, though I really won't hold that against anyone. I just do not think that we will connect very well. But who knows??
I have rebuilt the roof on my old home after reading a book (came out better than the neighbors pro job), tended a xeriscape garden for years, nurtured long term relationships, earned a shodan, modified motorcycles, eschewed career paths that paid a lot more, collected books, and ate a 3000 calorie piece of cake.
If you have a child/children, it would have to be a really great connection for me to be interested in pursuing a relationship.
Other: I want to learn more about music. Okay, this could turn off many but I am interested in learning about "classic" country music, i.e. real americana. I want to continue to travel and I don't mean tour bus type travel but getting out and meeting the locals and experiencing the life.
I tend to take on new hobbies every few years, always looking to grow, experience, and experiment.
