Date someone special from Berkeley, United States. I am a college professor (my field the History of Ideas), still working, actively engaged in teaching and research, and very happy in my professional life. I am also a warm, loving, passionate woman, for whom life is most meaningful in an intimate relationship. What I’m looking for in a friend, partner, lover, is an intelligent, sensitive, loving, warm, playful person, someone I can trust and respect. He must be someone who enjoys intellectual discussions as much as I, and as quickly laugh until he’s breathless at something silly one of us has said. I also need the passion and tenderness of an intimate sexual relationship. I love to touch and be touched, and, when not close enough to touch, to look across a room, catch the eye of my lover and share a sweet, private moment (OK, I admit it, I’m a romantic). And I need laughter and playfulness—every day, if I can get it! Marriage is not a goal, but I hope for a committed, monogamous relationship. Family is also very important to me, my own, and, if at all possible (I’ll work on it) the family of the one whose life I share. I'm very healthy and active--the life in which I’m happiest revolves around reading and the intellectual activities on which I thrive, and the physical, sensuous, aesthetic pleasures of the body: walking, hiking, dancing, love-making, traveling, cooking, theaters and concerts, films, long leisurely evenings over a wonderful meal and good wine cooked by me or in a cozy, intimate restaurant. (It’s a plus if the food is ethnic and spicy, and I’m in heaven if the meal includes shellfish). About dancing--I love it, but am not very good, and when I have time take dance lessons. But I need a partner to practice with. My politics are probably left of liberal, and I’m committed to social and political movements that work for social justice, and would be more of an activist if I didn’t love my books so much. My background is Jewish and I value my heritage, but I’m not a religious or spiritual person, except in the sense that I understand and share the very human need for community that grounds all religions. But I also value the diversity of peoples, perspectives, beliefs, and customs. I love to travel--the photo's were taken last year, 2007, on my 4 month sabbatical in Italy; the first, hiking in the Apennines, the second walking down the steps of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I do research on an Italian philosopher and have spent a lot of time in Italy, sometimes taking language courses to work on my Italian. But I'm interested in traveling anywhere in the world, particularly to areas where I can hike as well as enjoy the cultural and culinary pleasures travel offers.
