Meet someone special from Sitka, United States. Hello, I am a 48-year-old SWM who moved to Sitka, Alaska, in November 2005. Before that I spent six years in the Juneau-Douglas area of Southeast Alaska. I've been in Alaska since May 1970 (I was born in Arizona), and I've lived or worked in just about every corner of the state (including Bethel, Barrow, Nome and other places off the road system). I grew up in Anchorage and spent most of my time in Alaska in Anchorage, but lately I've really come to appreciate the small-town feel and beauty of Southeast Alaska. My parents still live in Anchorage (as does a brother), and I have sisters in Fairbanks and Seattle and other family in Oklahoma. I left the state to go to college in Portland, Ore., and Edinburgh, Scotland, but I came back home and I think I found my place is Way Up North In Alaska.
I am looking for a real woman, one who is comfortable with herself even if there are flaws. Hey, we all have flaws and I know I've got my share. I am 6-foot-1, way too heavy (I've been described as a lineman gone to seed), with long hair and a beard. Even though I weigh more than 300 pounds, I'm trying to work on getting the weight down. I'm walking or riding my mountain bike most places, trying to get in 10,000 steps a day, and I've only driven a car about four times this year. I lost 30-40 pounds in 2006, but my weight hit a plateau for 2007. Hopefully 2008 means I start dropping weight again. I'm also doing some volunteer work, as a member of the the Sitka Local Foods Network, Sitka Outdoor Recreation Coalition (Get Out, Sitka!), Alaska Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance, WISEGUYS men's health group and with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska.
I am college-educated and I'm looking for someone with some education beyond high school, even if it's from the school of hard knocks. I'm looking for a woman who is just as comfortable wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt as she is in a long designer gown. My personal preferences are for tall, athletic women (the swimmer, volleyball player type), but that's not the top factor for me. While attractive packaging might get a person noticed, it's the substance inside that makes everything worthwhile. I don't have any kids, but I do have two cats (fair warning for allergy sufferers).
I'm also interested in making new friends since I'm relatively new to Sitka (40-plus years in Alaska, but only five years in Sitka). If you're in Sitka, maybe you'll see me around and can say hello. I am looking for a woman who is comfortable with herself, and doesn't mind having a few flaws. Hey, we all have flaws and I know I've got my share. My preferences have always been toward tall, athletic women, but I've also been partial to the mousy librarian who suddenly becomes a bombshell when she takes off her glasses and lets down her hair. I'm not big on heavy make-up, big poofy hair, tattoos, piercings in weird places or a lot of jewelry. I'd rather hang out with a woman who's comfortable not needing a lot of makeup.
I like women who have some college education, or who aren't afraid to keep stimulating their intellects even if it's through community school classes or a lot of reading. I'm a bit of an anti-smoker (I have asthma), so prefer non-smokers. While I've never been married and have no kids, don't think your kids and past relationships will scare me off. I figure at my age, I should expect whomever I meet to have done a little living before they meet me. I'd almost be more worried if they hadn't. By the way, I do like kids so long as they're well-behaved. I've done a lot of work with youth groups (Boy Scouts, Big Brothers, sports teams, etc.), so I'm used to dealing with the younger folks. If I interest you, send me a wink since I can't read mail here.
