Date a soulmate from Alabama, United States. During Mamorial Day some of my siblings and a couple of friends took the boat out to a deserted island. Once upon a time, before the river was dammed and the lake was formed, people lived and died on this land. Now it is an island and the only inhabitants are in the family cemetery. It was an eclectic group, that day in the boat. My brother, sister, a friend from Germany, another from El Salvador and I headed out across a large expanse of water toward an island rarely visited. As we raced across the wide open water my brother broke into song:
“Just sit right back and hear a tale…a tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailing man, the skipper brave and sure,
Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour….a three hour tour.”
Well…most of you know the rest of the words. By the time he was singing the second line my sister and I were chiming in and we got louder and louder the further into the song we sang as our boat roared through the choppy water. Though we hadn’t sung this song, together or individually before, the three of us seemed to remember all the words. Our international guests looked at us with their mouths hanging open. Apparently Gilligan is not a national treasure nor is it in syndication in Germany or El Salvador.
Our quest once we reached the island was to find the family cemetery. My brother had found it years ago, and I sort of remembered seeing it too once upon a time, but other times our searches had been unsuccessful. It was almost as though the ghostly residents chose when to reveal themselves and when to stay in hiding.
Truly, if you’re not careful you could walk right past these gravestones and not see them. The island is more and more overgrown, the brush thicker, the trees taller, the sunlight can be dim. But on this day my brother, with some sort of sixth sense walked us almost directly to them. At one point he stood still, then made a decision to turn right and climb another short hill. At the top we paused, and then the sun glinted off of one of the markers and we saw them. Hidden back behind trees and brush there is a father, mother and at least three of their young children. Other graves are marked less obviously.
The people buried there are Dr. B.P. Young and his wife Sallie Edith Young. He was born in 1835 and died in 1891, she in a similar time period. The three smaller stones mark children born and died in the 1870's. One appeared to be a year or so old, another I think was born and died on the same day. A third’s stone is illegible but is obviously the size for a small child. You can tell all three were loved.
“Like the dove to the ark Thou has flown to thy rest. From the wild sea of life to the home of the blessed.”
We stood a bit among this family, in the dappled sun, with the lake glinting just off in the distance. It was quiet there and we were quiet too as we read all the stones and tried to imagine what had happened to the children, wondered if there were surviving children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. I felt sad for them, but also envied them such a peaceful place to rest.
I wondered if many people came to visit. And I wondered if they minded us being there in our swimsuits and sneakers. I thought maybe they didn’t mind, maybe they welcomed the company for a few short minutes on a summer afternoon. Maybe they recognized our care when we brushed the leaves away from the headstones and read the verse they had carved in stone for their children. When we wondered aloud at their history. Maybe they are glad that they are not forgotten. I’d like to find out more about this family that lived on that land more than 100 years ago.
And I’m sure that on some soft summer evenings as I sit on my deck listening to the frogs in the pond and the birds getting ready for sleep I’ll remember their peaceful wooded spot, high on a hill o

Well, I have been on here several times and I am discouraged to see all the men that put "slender", "tonedf" as their preference for body types. I don't know about all the other ladies but I just click "NO" to those profiles. I am that full figured woman that was married to a couch potato for 25 years and let myself get lazy. MY FAULT! But I am now on the mend! I just got back from a trip from Wyoming (all by myself) because I love to travel and see new places. So when you are out there looking for those "slender" women...say hello to that woman who is on the airplane by herself or out riding the jet ski, four wheeler, fishing or looking smashing at the formal function...it could be me! I will be the one out there LIVING, LAUGHING AND LOVING LIFE!
So if you are looking for someone to enjoy life with give me a wink or shoot me an email......
